In this gallery you will find work whose purpose is to provoke thought, intent and meaning.
Food!
We all eat. We all need to eat
Some of us eat to fill our bellies, some to satisfy the taste buds, while others do so to nurture the body.
Conversations and experiences have shown me that we who live in these united states hunger, yearn even, for something quick, yummy, gooey, salty, sour, sweet and shiny. This desire not nly manifests most commonly in the form of food, but also religion; the necessities of life. For with some individuals, if there is no religion there is no life, just as with food.
I draw with clay, glazes, glitter, gold leaf, felt and embroidery floss in order to understand this relationship. These drawings aren’t on paper. They sit in our space luring one in to give fervor-like attention, like the shrines of golden arches found from sea to shining sea.
As I continue to draw I wonder about the similarities between food and religion as two motives for ritual: Do the practitioners approach their daily rites with thoughtful dedication? Or is it with obsessive fixation? Or are these rituals merely sought for simple daily requirements without cause for any deep reflection?
